Think about it.
Do I think about the impression I am making in texting
and online interactions? Do I visualize the person(s) I'm talking to through my
devices as I interact with them?
I often wonder if people would say in person what they text or post. It's just one of those things I think should always be on a persons mind when interacting with someone through the Internet or texting. I try to always ask myself, "Would I say this if the person I'm talking to were next to me?"
And on Facebook I have to think about the fact that not just some of the people on my Facebook see everything I post. Everyone on my Facebook sees what I post(even those people I don't know and hid because they post weird stuff that's annoying)!
I think our ability to communicate through the internet and texting is an amazing and awesome privilege. But I think I need to be cautious not to take advantage of my freedom. The person at the other end of my conversations is a person with thoughts and feelings of their own, along with a unique way of interpreting things. We all interpret things differently so when I'm having a discussion with someone I should try to think about how what I say will be interpreted.
A written conversation is even harder than one in person, because you can't write facial expressions and body language into a text(unless maybe if you overuse emoticons). Because of this I always try to read anything I write and consider how it might be taken by someone else.
So heres a challenge please, "Think about it."
